One of the scholarships I did this year was the PTSO Scholarship and for this scholarship I had to give an advance to a freshman or an incoming freshman. I had think hard about what I advice I would have wanted when I started high school and think about how this advice is going to help freshman. This advice is going to help freshman have a better view of high school at AMES. This advice is going to give freshman insight on what high school is. They are going to try to apply this to their daily life. All of these advice that I wrote about I was using them in and out of high school.
Freshman Advice
To all you freshman and incoming freshman at AMES the advice that I want to give to you is to enjoy High school. Let me tell you about High school at AMES. AMES is an early college high school. Did you see the word College? That means this high school is different. The work is going to be harder; you are going to have to study more and pay attention more. The homework’s are going to suck and the teachers are going to be extra hard on you sometimes but other times they will show you their soft side. You're going to hear the same music ringing throughout the hallways before every class period telling you to run to class or you're going to get a tardy ticket. Don’t get a tardy ticket because you’re probably going to forget to pay for it and then the money just keeps adding up. I’m speaking from experience. AMES is going to be tough. You are going to cry, scream, want to drop out, have mixed feelings about AMES but don’t forget to enjoy all the hardships. Enjoy everything at AMES. Enjoy the music and the homework and the teachers being hard on you. I tell you to enjoy these hardship because all of these things that are tough and boring and weird, they are going to shape you into a great student, great leader and a great person. Always remember that all these things that you are going to complain about are going to be the same thing you're going to want after you leave AMES. I have two months left of high school and I am scared. I’m scared about going to college and starting over and not having these daily AMES memories. Enjoy all the times you and your friends will sit in the pods and do nothing but enjoy each others presence. Enjoy the simple things like seeing Martha selling muffins every morning and at lunch. It’s going to seem slow your first year but high school goes quicker than you think. Enjoy all the time you have at AMES.
